PROJECT OF THE MOMENT
You know how you learn something new and you just cant do anything else but that one new thing? Everything else you ever learned just kind of falls by the wayside. . . until something ELSE comes along to inspire you! Well thats why Im calling this my Project of the Moment, because I dont know that itll last a month, or even a week, but Im obsessed by it at the moment!
Im an avowed packrat, and I love any technique that will allow me to indulge those tendencies. Ive been saving all my magazine pages to make envelopes (a previous obsession!), but now Im using them to stamp on. You need a nice, open, line-style type of stamp image, one that will allow the magazines pictures to show through. The new Ducks in a Row Stamp of the Month is a great choice (more about that later).
I used gold Colorbox ink, but any color of pigment ink will work, as long as it contrasts with the colors on the magazine page. Remember, this is a glossy surface, so you will be embossing. Also, the stamp may feel a bit slippery when you stamp, so be prepared for that. I managed to stamp several times without re-inking, so if you have a page with lots of great colors and images on it, stamp all over it, pour on the embossing powder, and set it aside to heat everything later.
There are so many great pictures to use--flowers are an obvious choice, but I also used a picture of Creole shrimp, a banana split, and a hat! Itll make you look at your magazines in a different way from now on. Also, you can use any portion of the magazine page, whereas when youre looking at them for envelopes, you have to have the whole page work out just right.
When you cut
out the image, try to keep close to the embossed edge, without cutting into
it. Even though youre careful, sometimes the embossing may crack in spots,
or even flake off. This seems to be because the paper is so thin and flexible.
Just keep cutting, and when youre done, use a cotton swab and dab it in
some clear embossing ink or whatever color ink you used to emboss, then dab
it on the image where the embossing flaked off. Re-apply embossing powder, heat,
and nobody knows there was a casualty!
Layer your stamped magazine image onto other cardstock, and youve got
a great card! Stop by and see the ones Ive done to get some more ideas.
